I asked my grandson, he’s real smart, always on that computer. He said those numbers and that Calatrava are important. They mean something about what kind of watch it is, or where it’s from. Like a secret code. I don’t know, seems like a lot of fuss to me.
My grandson said those numbers are very important. Like Patek serial numbers. And reference number. Whatever that means. You know, I don’t understand. When I was young, a watch was a watch. Now it has numbers.
Pricey, Like a New Tractor
This Patek Philippe 5088/100P, it’s expensive. Real expensive. Like, buy-a-new-tractor expensive. Or maybe even two tractors. I heard them talkin’ at the market, sayin’ it costs more than a hundred thousand dollars. Can you imagine? A hundred thousand dollars, for a watch!
And then, they got this other price, somethin’ called “pre-owned.” Like, used. Even used, it’s still more money than I’ve ever seen in my life. Eighty-five thousand, they’re sayin’. Eighty-five thousand for a used watch! I just don’t get it. You can get a new one for 105,820 dollars. Or maybe, just a little bit more.
Platinum, Whatever That Is
They say this watch, this Remake Patek Philippe, it’s made of somethin’ called “platinum.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? I don’t know what platinum is. Sounds like a planet or somethin’. Maybe it’s from outer space.
My grandson, he told me platinum is a kind of metal. A special kind of metal. More special than gold, even. That’s why it costs so much, he says. I guess that makes sense. Still, a hundred thousand dollars for a watch! It’s just crazy. And it is 38mm. I don’t know what that means either.
This watch has something called “self-winding” movement. I don’t know about that. All I know is that it is very expensive.

This Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001, it ain’t for the likes of us. It’s for them rich folks, the ones who don’t know what to do with their money. The ones who got more money than sense, like I said before.
Me, I’ll stick with my old watch. The one my husband gave me, God rest his soul. It may not be fancy, but it tells the time just fine. And it didn’t cost a fortune, neither.
But hey, if you got the money, and you want somethin’ shiny and fancy, I guess this Remake Patek Philippe 5088/100P is the watch for you. Just don’t come cryin’ to me when you can’t afford to buy groceries.
