Alright, let’s talk about watches, or more specifically, the CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Sapphire with the Cal.3861 movement. I’ve been eyeing this thing for a while, and I finally got my hands on it. This ain’t no sponsored post or nothing, just my own experience with this watch.
First off, I started looking into this watch because, well, I like watches. And the Speedmaster is just one of those iconic pieces, you know? It’s got that whole Moonwatch history thing going on, which is pretty cool if you’re into that kind of stuff. I did a ton of research, reading every article and forum post I could find. I spent hours on these websites, just soaking it all in.
Decision Time
After all that digging, I decided to go for the classic Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, but with the sapphire crystal. Some folks are all about the hesalite, which is like the original plastic crystal they used back in the day. But I wanted that clear, see-through case back – they call it a “transparent case back” – so I can see the movement ticking away, and for that, you gotta go with sapphire.
Then there’s the movement. This one has the Caliber 3861. I heard it is some kind of improved version of manual winding, something 1873, and the difference between 1861 and 3861 is it put something called coaxial module on the movement. Anyway, this 3861 movement is supposed to be more accurate and has a longer power reserve, which I guess means you don’t have to wind it as often. Plus, it’s “meta certified” whatever that means. Sounds fancy, though.
The Hunt
So, I started looking for where to buy it. After some searching, I found a dealer with a good reputation. I went through many websites, looked around and try to get a good price, you know. I ended up calling a few places, asking a bunch of questions.
Finally, I found the one. Pulled the trigger and ordered it. A few days later, a box arrived. This thing is 42mm in diameter and 47mm lug-to-lug, whatever that means. It felt pretty good on the wrist, not too big, not too small. It’s got that classic Speedmaster look, but with that sapphire crystal, it just feels a bit more modern.
Unboxing and First Impressions
I carefully unboxed it, and man, it looked even better in person. The dial is clean, and the hands are easy to read. The chronograph pushers have a nice, solid click to them. And that see-through case back? Amazing. I could stare at that movement all day. I even got one of those magnifying glasses just to look at it closer. It’s a thing of beauty, all those gears and springs working together.
I wound it up, set the time, and strapped it on. It felt great. Comfortable, even with the metal bracelet. I also got a steel version. You know, I even found out they make these in gold and ceramic, which is pretty wild.
Living with It
I’ve been wearing this watch for a few weeks now, and I gotta say, I’m impressed. It keeps great time, and it’s just a joy to wear. It’s a good daily driver. Plus, knowing it’s got that whole Moonwatch heritage adds a little something special to it. And I don’t worry as much about scratching the crystal since it’s sapphire.
- Looks: Classic Speedmaster, but with a modern twist.
- Movement: That Cal. 3861 is a beast.
- Comfort: Feels great on the wrist.
- Cool Factor: It’s a Moonwatch, man!
Overall, I’m happy with my purchase. And I heard that it holds its value well, so maybe I can sell it in the future for a lot of money. Or just keep it as an investment. Or for my son. Anyway, this watch is a keeper. If you’re thinking about getting a Speedmaster, the sapphire version with the 3861 movement is definitely worth checking out. That’s my two cents, anyway.
