Hey everyone, I’m back with another project, and this time, it’s a big one! I’ve been wanting to remake the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R for a while now, and I finally took the plunge. I decided to document the whole process, so you guys can see how it all came together.
First thing I did was research, a lot of research. I needed to learn everything about this watch. The 5738R is a beauty, with its 18K rose gold case and that sleek black dial. The dimensions, 34.5 x 39.5 mm, are pretty unique, and I wanted to get them spot on. I found some info about it being a 2024 model, and some other pieces were from 2022, but either way, the design is timeless, and I was pumped to recreate it.
I began by sketching out the design. I focused on getting the proportions right, because that’s what makes the Golden Ellipse so special. It’s all about that golden ratio. It took a few tries, but I finally got a design I was happy with. After that I tried to draw every detail on the draft.
Next, I had to pick out the materials. I opted for a high-quality rose gold alloy to match the original. I spent a good chunk of time just sourcing the materials. This is the part where you don’t want to skimp, or the whole thing could look cheap, you know.

Then came the crafting part. Man, this was intense! I started with the case, shaping it carefully to those exact dimensions. It was a slow process. I was sweating bullets, making sure every curve was perfect. After that, I worked on the dial. Getting that black finish just right took some experimentation, but I got there in the end.

- Shaping the case: Used the rose gold alloy and meticulously crafted it to the 34.5 x 39.5 mm dimensions.
- Creating the dial: Experimented with different finishes to achieve that perfect black look.
- Assembling the movement: Carefully put together all the tiny components, which was a real test of patience!
The movement was probably the trickiest part. I’m not a watchmaker, so this was a huge learning curve. I got some parts and tried to assemble them, making sure everything was aligned and working smoothly. It took a lot of patience and a steady hand, but I managed to put it all together.
Finally, I assembled the whole watch. Seeing it come together was so rewarding. The rose gold case, the black dial, the hands moving perfectly—it was a dream come true. The whole thing felt amazing in my hands. This was definitely one of my most challenging projects, but also one of the most satisfying. I hope you guys enjoyed this little look into my process.
