Okay, so, I’ve been seeing this Prada Re-Edition 2000 Bag everywhere, right? And, as you know, I just adore the classic styles, and this one was screaming my name. But that price tag? No, thank you. So what did I do? I decided to remake it myself! Yep, you heard that right.
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some materials. I remembered some people talking about this Prada bag is made of recycled, purified plastic trash collected in the ocean, so I needed to find a similar thing to made of. This wasn’t too hard. I also needed some Saffiano leather for the details. I managed to find some scraps online, thankfully! Oh, and I needed a zipper. I had an old jacket with a zipper that was just the right size, so I took that apart. Reuse, reduce, recycle, right?
Then came the tricky part – actually making the bag. I started by drawing out the shape of the bag on some old fabric to make a pattern. I found some pictures of the bag online and kinda eyeballed it. It’s a pretty simple shape, so it wasn’t too hard to figure out. Then I cut out the pieces, two for the front and back, and some smaller ones for the sides.
Next up, sewing. Now, I’m no expert, but I’ve mended a few things in my time. I dusted off my old sewing machine – it’s older than me, I swear – and got to work. Sewing the pieces together was actually kind of fun. It’s like a puzzle, you know? I started with the sides and then attached the front and back. I also added a little pocket inside, because who doesn’t love a good pocket?
Now for the zipper. This was probably the hardest part. Getting it to sit straight and not bunch up the fabric was a real pain. But after a few tries and a lot of seam ripping, I finally got it in there. Then I attached the Saffiano leather to the zipper pull. I also made a little hangtag with the words “Prada Re-Edition 2000,” just like the real thing, and stuck that on too.
Finally, I needed a strap. I found an old belt that I never wore anymore and cut it to the right length. I sewed it onto the sides of the bag, and voila! My very own, handmade Prada Re-Edition 2000 Bag was complete!
- Here’s what I did:
- Gathered materials (nylon fabric, Saffiano leather scraps, zipper, belt).
- Created a pattern by eyeballing pictures of the original bag.
- Cut out the fabric pieces according to the pattern.
- Sewed the pieces together using my trusty old sewing machine.
- Attached the zipper (after a few failed attempts!).
- Added Saffiano leather details to the zipper pull and made a hangtag.
- Repurposed an old belt as a strap and attached it to the bag.
It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few wonky stitches, and the shape isn’t exactly like the original. But you know what? I made it! And that feels pretty darn good. Plus, I saved myself a ton of money, and I got to be creative. It’s a win-win! I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and I get so many compliments. People can’t believe I made it myself. I might even start a little side hustle making these, who knows? Stay tuned, folks!
