Alright, folks, gather ’round. Today, I’m gonna share my little project of remaking the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5713, the one you see in their flagship store. Yeah, that fancy, shiny one.
So, first off, I got my hands on some 18K white gold. Why? ‘Cause that’s what the real deal uses. This thing’s supposed to be a luxury watch, right? Gotta get the materials right. It wasn’t easy, let me tell you, finding the right quality and not getting ripped off. But I managed.
Next up, the bezel. Now, this is where it gets interesting. The 5713 has this diamond-set bezel that just screams “expensive.” I spent days, maybe weeks, just looking at pictures, trying to figure out how they set those diamonds. It’s a real art, how they make it look so seamless and sparkly.
- I started by shaping the bezel, getting that classic Nautilus look. You know, the rounded octagon thing they got going on.
- Then, the painstaking part – setting the diamonds. I had to be super careful here. One slip and the whole thing could look wonky. I used some tiny little tools, like a miniature craftsman.
After the bezel, I moved on to the case. The Nautilus has this unique case construction, a mix of satin and polished finishes. I tried my best to copy that. Polishing, brushing, polishing some more… it was a whole process. I used different tools to get the finishes right, that’s the important. I have watched those videos on YouTube many times.
The bracelet was another challenge. It’s white gold, just like the case, and it has this twin-trigger deployant clasp. That just means it’s got a fancy way of opening and closing. I made each link by hand, shaping and polishing them until they looked just right. Then I assembled them, making sure the clasp worked smoothly. This step is not easy as you think, because the metal is soft.
Putting it all together, seeing the watch come to life… that was something else. It’s not perfect, mind you. There are probably a million tiny differences if you compared it to the real 5713. But you know what? I made it. With my own two hands. And that’s pretty darn cool, if I do say so myself.
It was a fun ride, trying to recreate this masterpiece. Learned a lot along the way. Maybe one day I’ll even get to see a real 5713 in person and compare it to my little project. Until then, I’ll keep tinkering, keep learning, and keep sharing my adventures with you all.
By the way, this is a discontinued model from 2009, very rare. I haven’t seen this watch in the real market. So, I decided to make it.
