Okay, here’s my experience with the OMEGA Speedmaster 310.92.44.50.01.001, also known as the Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” – Rocket, from a specialty store.

So, I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8 for a while. You know, the one they call the “Dark Side of the Moon” with the cool rocket stuff? Yeah, that one. I finally decided to go for it.

First, I spent time online just to make sure I knew what I wanted. I looked at a ton of pictures and read what other people were saying about it. Made sure I was getting the real deal, you know?

Next up, I had to find a place that actually sold it. I am not messing with some shady online shop, so I went straight for a legit OMEGA store. I checked their website, and sure enough, they had a few locations. Found one not too far from me.

I called the store up, just to be safe. Talked to a guy there, and he confirmed they had the Speedmaster in stock. Even put one aside for me. Nice!

Went to the store the next day. The place was pretty fancy, all shiny and stuff. They had a bunch of watches on display, but I was there for the Apollo 8.

The guy I talked to on the phone helped me out. He brought out the watch, and man, it looked even better in person. All black ceramic, that skeletonized dial showing the movement, and the yellow accents? Awesome.

He let me try it on. Felt great on my wrist. Not too heavy, not too light. He explained all the features, how the chronograph works, the whole deal with the moon landing connection.

Now, this watch ain’t cheap. But I had done my homework, and I knew what a fair price was. We talked numbers, and I ended up getting it for what I thought was a good deal.

They boxed it all up nicely, with all the paperwork and certificates and stuff. Felt good walking out of there with that box in my hand.

Getting It Home and Setting It Up

Got it home, and of course, the first thing I did was take a bunch of pictures. Had to show it off a little, right?

  • Unboxing: Carefully took everything out of the box. Watch, warranty cards, instruction booklet, the whole nine yards.
  • Setting the Time: This was pretty easy. Just pulled out the crown and wound it up.
  • Trying Out the Chronograph: Played around with the stopwatch function. Those pushers have a really satisfying click.
  • Admiring the Details: Spent a good amount of time just looking at the watch. The detail on the movement is insane.
  • Wearing It Out: Of course, I had to wear it out. Got a few compliments, which was nice.

Overall, I’m super happy with this purchase. It’s a really cool watch, and I had a good experience getting it from the OMEGA store. If you’re thinking about getting one, I say go for it. Just make sure you do your research and buy from a reputable place.
